Changed Title!

I have updated the blog title image as during the project I had decided the name PARAp^oduce is more suitable given that it is parasitic in form, and delivers fresh produce through various pods.

Form Exploration

I am really inspired by geodesic forms and microscopic cells which seem to be quite versatile and structurally efficient. These forms can be added upon in layers, connected to or combined to create intricate structures. Here are a few things I've been playing with..

Research on materials, joints, technologies and systems.

I feel that within a future sustainable, self sufficient setting an adapative structure is neccesary. Eaves and double glazed windows will just not cut-it in my scenario, with growing materials and a generative proposal. How will solar activity be repelled or accepted? I enjoyed the ideas below and desire to explore these technologies in a 3D modelling setting for use in my urban farm facade system.

ShapeShift - an experiment in future possibilities of architectural materialization, a project which explores the potential application of electro-active polymer (EAP) at an architectural scale.

Why can't architecture adapt to humans? Why do humans have to adapt to materials and buildings?
"Bloom" - created by Doris Kim Sung, assistant professor at University of Southern California's School of Architecture. 14,000 pieces of "thermobimetal" made up of two or more layers which have different expansion coefficients. When the temperature changes, the metals expand at different rates, curling up or down, giving the appearance of a reactive skin.

Wow I found this extremely interesting site, reality distorted which has a whole variety future architecture and technologies which I find really inspiring. The facade system by Future Cities Lab is especially interesting.

Parasitic connections...

The future proposal below shows a parasitic form which utilises existing buildings through an organic connecting form. Perhaps reverseparasite begins within Myer centre buildings and spreads to the exterior and to other buildings?

Modelling

After discussing my project plan and sketch designs with my tutor Ruwan, which I have developed over the last 2 weeks during the mid-semester holiday, I feel more comfortable with the direction my design is heading in. My biggest challenge this month will be to learn 3DS MAX which is the best program to develop my organic project in, however this will be the first time I will be using the program. I feel that with Ruwan's immense knowledge in the program, I have a great supportive resource to guide me through the new learning process, however it will still be a challenge given that I the main point of contact is in out tutorial class one day a week.
